Results are given of experiments carried out on the polarization of Au/ sup 198/ nuclei in gold-iron irradiated by thermal neutrons. The gamma rays were recorded wIth two scintillation counters with CsI crystuls. The Au/sup 198/ BETA decay (transition 2/sup -/ ratory. 2/sup +/) is followed by gamma emission at 411 kev (transition 2/sup +/ ratory. 0/sup +/). The magnitude BETA = mu H/kTI ( mu is the Au/sup 198/ magnetic moment, I is the spin and H is the magnetic field of the Au/sup 198/ nucleus) is within the limits of 0.3 to 0.4 and the nuclear polarization of Au is within 0.25 to 0.35. The magnitude of H is found to be (0.5 to 0.7) x 10/sup 6/ gauss. (R.V.J.)
