THE SEPARATION OF THE MAJOR IMPURITIES IN URANIUM DIOXIDE PRIOR TO SPECTROGRAPHIC EXAMINATION

The sample is dissolved in nitric acid crystallized, and transferred to a column of activated cellulose. The uranium is removed by elution with ether- mitric acid solvent leaving the impurities on the column which is then ashed and reserved for spectrographic examination. The method is suitable for the separation of Al, Ag, Ba Be, Bi, Co, Cr, Mg, MO Ni, Pb, Si, Sn, Sr, Ti, W, and Zn. (auth)
