FREEZING OF ICE PLUGS IN PROCESS LINES OF THE HRT

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4255191

Fuel in the Homogeneous Reactor Test (HRT) is to be a solution of UO/sub 2/(NO/sub 3/)/sub 2/ in heavy water. When maintenance of the reactor or an auxiliary is necessary, the tank containing the reactor and process lines will be filled with light water for the purpose of shielding. Some method must be devised to prevent light water from entering the system when equipment is removed for repairs. The method studied in this investigation was the freezing of ice plugs in the pipe lines before flanges are disconnected. (W.L.H.)
