THE DETERMINATION OF ZIRCONIUM IN URANIUM METAL AND URANIUM TETRAFLUORIDE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4254433
The metal is dissolved in a mixture of nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid and the tetrafluoride in a mixture of nitric acid and perchloric acid. The solution obtained is evaporated down to fumes of perchloric acid. Zirconium is precipitated with mandelic acid, the precipitate dissolved in sulfuric acid, E.D.T.A. added in excess, and this excess titrated with standard iron solution. This method is suitable for the deterimation of 2.5 to 100 mg of zirconiunn with an over-all accuracy of plus or minus 1%. (auth)
