The absorption spectrum of a single sector of the pseudohexagonal crystal was measured in the temperature range from 68 to 290 deg K. The theoretical analysis proved earlier was improved and completed. The essential points are that the point symmetry of the Eu3+ ion in the lattice, in the temperature range studied, is CS, in very good approximation, with the monoclinic axis perpendicular to the pseudohexagonal crystal axis and parallel to the other prism surface. The deviations from the hexagonal symmetry were larger with decreasing temperature. The single sectors are not formed homogeneously but possess a mosaic structure for which a model is given. From the term splitting the real matrix elements of the crystal field energy were determined. The phase of a complex matrix element was established from the intensity of the magnetic dipole moment. Tho intensity of the electric dipole radiation increases with decreasing temperature.
