FLATTENING CALCULATIONS FOR THE WINDSCALE PILES

Methods and numerical constants used in flattening calculations for the Windscale Piles are presented. Their use is illustrated by examples of operational calculations. The accuracy of the calculations was found to deteriorate as the running time of the piles increased, due to uncertainties in the long-term change of k of the piles and in the relative heat transfer efficiencies of the types of cans. Further work on these points would restore the good initial accuracy. (auth)
