MEASUREMENT OF THE NEUTRON FLUX DISTRIBUTIONS ACROSS A LATTICE CELL IN THE WINDSCALE PILES

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4170487
Uranium detectors were irradiated in the rods and the moderator of a cell in the Windscale Piles. From measurements of the activity induced in the detectors by irradiations bare and under cadmium, the effective sub-cadmium fission flux distribution was determined. The ratio of maximum to average flux in a uranium rod was found to be 1.3 and the ratio of maximum flux in the moderator to average flux in uranium was found to be 1.6. The estimated accuracy of these results is plus or minus 10 per cent. (auth)
