The importance of 5-hydroxytryptamine for the release of a radiation protection effect in animal experiments is discussed. The protective effect of 5- hydroxytryptamine derivates was studied. Results indicate that for the release of a protection effect by 5-hydroxytryptamine the presence of free unbound 5- hydroxytryptamine is necessary. (auth)
