THE EFFECTS OF NUCLEAR TRANSFORMATION IN THE BROMATES. PART 2. COMPARISON OF THE EFFECTS OF NEUTRON CAPTURE AND ISOMERIC TRANSITION. Report No. 79/V

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4247099
The effects of the reaction Br/sup 79/(n, gamma )Br/sup 80/ and the isomeric transition Br/sup 80m/- Br/sup 80/ in bromate solutions and crystalline bromates have been compared. As in the case of isomeric transition previously reporteds (n, gamma ) reaction gives rise to an unstable fragments probably bromite, reducible with methanol in a certain proportion of events. The (n. gamma ) reaction leads to a more complete disintegration of bromate than isomeric transition, leading to rupture of at least one Br-0 bond in all events. Recombination of fragments in crystalline bromates has been compared for the two transformations. (auth)
