June. The gamma rays resulting from the ring scatterers of Mg, Al, Fe, and Bi bombarded with 2.95-Mev neutrons have been investigated. The cross sections for the 0.845-Mev gamma ray from Fe56 and for the l.37Mev gamma ray from Mg24 were 1.10 plus or minus 0.13 and 0.66 plus or minus 0.10 in barns, respectively. The angular distributions of the gamma rays relative to the direction of the incident neutrons were both symmetric around 90 plus or minus . These cross sections and angular distributions were compared with the statistical theory by the optical model. The results were fairly well interpreted by using a diffuse potential well.
