Certain theoretical studies on the quadrupole coupling constant of I/sup 127/ in I/sub 2/ are made following the general principles of Townes and Dailey (1949). The I-I bond is assumed to be one of a covalent type. Effects of sphybridization are considered and the results indicate the possibility of considerable amount of hydridization of the bonding orbitals. (auth)
