The liquids C/sub 3/F/sub 8/, C/sub 4/F/sub 10/, SF/sub 6/, C/sub 2/ClF/ sub 5 /, and CBrF/sub 3/, and mixtures of SF/sub 6/ with C/sub 2/ClF/sub 5/ were found to possess a number of desirable properties for use in large bubble chambers, designed primarily for particle decay studies. These properties are relatively short radiation length. convenient operating pressure and temperature, chemical inertness, and nontoxicity. Some properties of TeF/sub 6/ are also discussed.
