Vanadium is oxidized to the pentavalent state by the addition of potassium permanganate to a sulifuric acid solution of the alloy. Vanadium is then determined by the addition of excess ferrous ammonium sulfate and back titration using potassium dichromate. The method is applicable to alloys containing more than 1% w/w of vanadium. (auth)
