A PRECISE METHOD FOR DETERMINING VANADIUM IN ESSENTIALLY PURE VANADIUM METAL

A method of analysis for vanadium in essentia1ly pure vanadium metal is presented. Precision resulting in a limit of error (0.95) for a single determination of plus or minus O.O79% is achieved by oxidizing the weighed and dissolved sample to vanadium(V) and reacting this solution with a weighed slight excess of ferrous ammonium sulfate hexahydrate. The excess reagent is then back- titrated with standard potassium dichromate solution, the titration representing less than 1% of the amount of vanadium present. (auth)
