THE SPECTROGRAPHIC DETERMINATION OF CALCIUM IN URANIUM POWDER USING THE LUNDEGARDH TECHNIQUE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4233535
An investigation was carried on to extend the Lundegardh technique for the determination of alkali metals to the determination of calcium in uranium metal powder. A method was evolved by which calcium cand be determined with a precision of approximately plus or minus 10% with a lower limit of detection of 50 ppm. The uranium metal powder is dissolved in nitric acid and calcium determined directly on the solution without removal of the uranium. Owing to suppression of the spectrum by uranium, the standard solutions used for the calibration curve must contain the same concentration of uranium as the sample solutions. (auth)
