CRYSTALLINE CdS GAMMA-RADIATION RECEIVERS

Journal Article · · Soviet Phys.-Solid State
OSTI ID:4233274
The preparation of CdS specimens sufficiently sensitive a x and gamma radiation to be used without phosphers and amplifiers is described. Single crystals and polycrystalline samples or CdS grown from the vapor phase were resublimed in a quartz tube. Their dark resistance ranged from lO/sup 9/ to lO/ sup 13/ ohms and their sensitivity ranged from 0.8 x 10/sup -3/ a 7.0 x 10/sup -3/ mu amp/ mu r/ sec for a 24 mc (0/sup 60/ source). (T.R.H) l6l86 Basic data on radiation monitoring are presented as the third edition of the handbook. The most up-to-date data for permissible exposures and body burdens are included as well as descriptions of monitoring instruments and techniques, dosimetry, and protective equipment. (J.R.D.)
