METHODS OF FABRICATING ALPHA PARTICLE SCINTILLATION SCREENS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4228236

A suitable scintillation screen for use in an alpha detection system was developed. Zinc sulfide was used as the scintillation phosphor and was deposited by means of a bending solution onto a transparent backing plate. To exclude ambient light and to afford some amount of light recoated 1/4 mil Mylar sheet. The Mylar sheet was bonded to the phosphor by means of an edging of 100% solids adhesive. Since the scintillation screen was to be covered bv a fine wire mean the finished detector (with a moderately rugged light-tight covering) was considered adequate. The over-all alpha particle energy attenuation was less than 1 Mev. (auth)
