Inelastic irteraction between 8.7-Bev protons and photographic emulsion nuclei and in particular the interaction cross section, multiplicity of the generated particles, and their angular distribution were investigated. From comparison with compututions based on the statistical theory some conclusions regarding the existence of interactions of the peripheral (nucleon -nucleon) type are made as well as conclusious on the role of secondary interactions inside a composite nucleus.
