DETERMINATION OF THE LUMINESCENCE QUANTUM YIELD OF THE TRIVALENT TERBIUM ION IN SOLUTION

Relative intensities were measured for the seven bands of the luminescence spectrum of aqueous solutions of terbium chloride and sulfate. It is concluded that the probability of a radiationless transition for Tb/sup 3+/ in aqueous solution is approximately two orders of magnitude greater than for radiation transition. (C.J.G.)
