Methods based on the use of the luminescent complexes of a test metal with organic ligands are in considerable use for the quantitative determination of rare earth elements (REE). The procedures for terbium (III) determination in rocks suggest the preliminary recovery of all REE oxides, because Fe(II, III), Cu(II), Co, Ti(IV), Mn(II), Ni, Al, and other elements have a pronounced effect on the intensity of terbium luminescence. The recovery of all REE oxides considerably complicates the determination. The sensitivity of terbium determination in rocks with the use of the above-mentioned procedures is not high, and the detection limit is 0.03-2.7%. The aim this work is to investigate terbium(III) complexation with p-chlorodiphenyl ester of benzoylamidophosphoric acid, which has not been previously used in the luminescent analysis of lanthanides (Ln), and to develop a new procedure for luminescence terbium(III) determination in rocks without the preliminary recovery of REE oxides. Few investigations have been devoted to the complextion of lanthanides with carbamoylphosphine oxides. It has been shown that these ligands coordinate through the phosphoryl and carbonyl groups. The use of these organic reagents for analysis has not been described in literature.
