THE RADIOCHEMICAL STUDY OF PION PRODUCTION NUCLEAR REACTIONS (in Russian)

Studies of (p, pi /sup plus or minus /) and (p, p pi /sup +/) reactions on nuclei of mean atomic weight elements show that at proton energies of 480 to 660 Mev their cross section is equal to ~10/sup -30 cm//sup 2/nucleon. A considerable increase in the cross sections was observed in the energy range 110 to 480 Mev. The products of the (p,2 pi /sup +/) reaction on copper could not be identifled, neither could the reaction be observed with heavy elements. The reaction (p, pi /sup plus or minus /) with complex nucleons is discussed. The obtained data offer a clearer concept of processes taking place in high- energy particle interactions with complex nuclei. (tr-auth)
