A thin crystal of KI is exposed to gamma rays from Li with energies of 17.6 Mev. The energy spectrum of the protons obtained as a result of the reaction K3/sup 39/ gamma ,p) LAMBDA /sup 38/ was measured. The resultant spectrum deviates considerably in the high energy portion from that expected by statistical theory.
