THE INVESTIGATION OF THE COMPLEX FORMATION IN THE SYSTEM Th$sup 4+$- ACETYLACETONE-H$sub 2$O-C$sub 6$$H$$sub 6$ BY MEANS OF THE DISTRIBUTION METHOD

The distribution of Th/sup 4+/ in the system C/sub 6/H/sub 6/-H/sub 2/ Oacetylacetone at 25 plus or minus 0.1 deg was investigated. The ionic strength in the aqueous phase amounted to 0.1. An aliquot of Th(ClO/sub 4/)/sub 4/ solution was mixed with the calculated amount of NaOH and NaClO/sub 4/ solution and diluted with water to 15.0 ml. Fifteen ml solution of acetylacetone in benzene were added to this. The sample was stored in a controlled oven 20 hours to establish equilibrium and the phases separated by centrifuging. Thorium was determined in both phases by means of morin. The dependence of the ratio of the distribution or Th/sup 4+/ on the concentration of the free acetylacetone ions is shown graphically. The numerical results are tabulated. The coefficients of the distribution of Th/sub 4-/ acetylacetone, and the constants of the formation of the various thorium-acetylacetonate complexes are also tabulated. (auth)
