BS>A series of experiments were carried out on the same initial solution at different phase ratios. The equilibrium concentrations of Th(NO/sub 3/)/sub 4/ and HNO/sub 3/, and the specific gravities of the aqueous and organic phases are tabulated, and the distribution coefficients for Th(NO/sub 3/)/sub 4/ and HNO/sub 3/ were calculated. The data are plotted on a triangular composition diagram, and the distribution coefficients of thorium are displayed on this plot as a function of the composition. Three sections can be distinguished on the composition plot: thorium is primarily extracted; the content of water and nitric acid remains relatively constant and the extraction is linear. Th(NO/sub 3/)/sub 4/ and HNO/sub 3/ is both extracted together. The extraction of thorium is being repressed by the presence of the nitric acid. HNO/sub 3/ is primarily extracted. The extraction of thorium is strongly repressed by the presence of nitric acid. (TTT)
