Certain statistical aspects of a large collection of electronic spins coupled by exchange forces are examined. A system of this kind may be followed experimentally by elastic and inelastic diffusion of neutrons. At high temperatures, inelastic diffusion allows the microscopic aspect, reversible, and the microscopic aspect, irreversible, to be studied simultaneously and these two fields to be linked. At temperatures around the Curie point the average phenomenon is the appearance of a critical opalescence. At low temperatures, collective spin excitations can be observed. The spectrum of these excitations in metals is discussed. (auth)
