An anticoincidence counter, operating with a ring of proportional counters and with two proportional sample counting channels, was used for carbon- 14 and tritium gasproportional counting. Both the precision and the lower limit of activity detection were significantly improved. This method allows detection with a certainty of 1 cpm, whereas 2 cpm was previously considered the lower detection limit. A problem in the dry combustion of volatile organic liquids was resolved.
