Neutron Physics. The large B/sup 10/(n, alpha )Li/sup 7/ scintillation detector for the 475 kev gamma ray has been improved to take continuous counting rates over 700,000 counts/sec with a 20% resolution for the Cs/sup 137/ line. Design and construction of a scintillation chamber to study mass distribution in U/sup 235/ fission by p-wave neutrons is reported. Operation of the high-pressure gas scintillator for measurement of (n,p) cross section is reported. The useful range of the neutron crystal spectrometer at Brooknaven Reactor was extended. Procedures for obtaining samples of U/sup 235/, U/sup 233/ , and Pu/sup 239/ for cross section measurements are described. Charged Particle Investigations. Cyclotron alterations continued. Angular distribution studies of the Ne/sup 20/(d,n), Fig(d,n) and N/sup 14/(d,n) reactions are reported, along with investigations ofs gamma angular distribution following the ments, production of O/sup 15/ and F/sup 17/ activities for magnetic moment determination, and electric monopole internal conversion in O/sup 16/ and Ca/sup 40/. Theoretical Investigations. The circular polarization of the gamma in coincidence with the BETA from unoriented Co/sup 60/ nuclei was studied. Instrument Development. Brief descriptions are given of work ons 2,000-channel time-of-flight analyzer, Nal crystal detectors for Nevis velocity selector, 10- amp regulated current supply, current integrator, magnet power supplies, and components for automation. Light Particle Investigations. Work on the He/sup 6/ beta-neutrino angular correlation experiment is reported. (For preceding peniod see CU-184.) (T.R.H.)
