Photophysical behavior of a new CO{sub 2} reduction catalyst, Re(CO){sub 2}(bpy)(P(OEt){sub 3}){sub 2}{sup +}
- National Institute for Resources and the Environment, Onogawa (Japan); and others
The cation Re(CO){sub 2}(2,2{prime}-bipyridyl)(P(OEt){sub 3}){sub 2}{sup +} (P {sup +}) is capable of photochemical reduction of carbon dioxide. The authors report here concerning their studies of the photophysical and photochemical properties of Re(CO){sub 2}(2,2{prime}-bipyridyl)(P(OEt){sub 3}){sub 2}{sup +}. These studies were performed by time-resolved infrared absorption spectroscopy of CO bands, by spectroelectrochemistry (IR and UV-vis), and by UV-vis flash photolysis. P{sup +} is first excited into a MCLT where the charge is localized on the bpy ligand.
