A CLADDING THICKNESS TESTER FOR ZIRCONIUM OVER URANIUM

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4206966
An instrument is described that can be used to measure the thickness of zirconium cladding on a metaillic uranium base. The instrument operates on the eddy current principle. The sensing element is a hand-held probe. Cladding thickness changes of 1/4 mil can be detected in the range of 5 to 25 mils thickness. The sensitivity of the instrument is only slightly affected by temperature changes and input power variations. (auth)
