THORIUM BISMUTHIDE--ULTRASONIC CONTROL OF CRYSTAL SIZE
Technical Report
·
OSTI ID:4202292
The crystallization of thorium bismuthide from a bismuth solution results in platelets which may be as large as 1 cm in diameter. Particle size can be reduced by very rapid cooling ( approximately 1000 deg C per sec) or ultrasoric treatment. Shod ultrasontc treatments indicated energy requirements of 1.02 to 0.34 W-min per g. The corresponding; power requirements for treating the LMFR blanket are 25.8 to 8.5 kw. (C.J.G.)
