CALORIMETRIC DETERMINATION OF THE AVERAGE TOTAL KINETIC ENERGY OF FRAGMENTS FROM FISSION OF U$sup 235$ AND U$sup 238$ BY 14-MEV NEUTRONS

The fission yields of Mo/sup 99/ from 14-Mev neutron bombardments of U/ sup 235/ and U/sup 238/ were found to be (5.01 plus or minus 0.15)% and (5.86 plus or minus 0.16)%, respectively. The average total fragment kinetic energies released in fission of U/sup 235/ and U/sup 238/ were found to be 174 plus or minus 4 and 175 plus or minus 2 Mev, respectively. (auth)
