ABS>The thermodynamic properties of liquid lead-tin alloys were studied over the temperature range 730 to 790 deg C by the effusion method using a continuous weighing spring balance. The volatile component was lead. The activity of the latter in the alloys was found from the ratio of the rate of compression of the spring balance on vaporization from the alloy and from pure lead. Based on the similarity in shape of the curves for the heat of mixing and of analogous curves for solid alloys it was inferred that the lead-tin alloys in the liquid state posses a microheterogeneous structure.
