SOME ANGULAR DISTRIBUTION MEASUREMENTS ON THE REACTIONS $sup 16$O($sup 3$He,d)$sup 17$F AND $sup 16$O($sup 3$He,/cap alpha/)$sup 15$O

Journal Article · · Proc. Phys. Soc. (London)
Angular distributions of alpha particles from O/sup 16/(He/sup 3/, alpha )O/sup 15 were measured at incident energies of 5.70, 5.89, and 9.16 Mev. Results indicate that the reaction proceeds predominantly via a direct process at a Mev. The angular distributions measured at 5.70 and 5.89 Mev were very different, suggesting that at energies up to 6 Mev, compound nucleus formation still competes strongly with the direct process. Angular distribution measurements from the O/sup 16/(He/sup 3/,d)F/sup 17/ reaction at an incident energy of 9.16 Mev appeared to be predominantly stripping. (C.J.G.)
