RESOONSE OF RADIATED ANIMALS TO ANESTHETICS AND ANALGETICS. Period Covered : July 1, 1958-June 30, 1959
Technical Report
·
OSTI ID:4195948
Mice exposed to total-body ionizing radiation were anesthetized with diethyl ether, divinyl ether, and halothane. There was an increase ia-the mortality in the anesthetized as opposed to the control irradiated animals. This increase in mortality is related to the dose of radiation as well as to the interval between radiation and anesthesia. Inspection of raw data indicates a higher mortality after divinyl ether than after other agents. Pentobarbital, thiopental, and meperidine iacrease the death rate following ionizing radiation. In the case of the barbitarates sleeping time is greater in the irradiated animals than ia the non-irradiated control group. (auth)
