GENETIC AND AUTORADIOGRAPHIC STUDIES OF TRITIATED THYMIDINE IN TESTES OF DROSOPHILA MELANOGASTER

Autoradiographic studies were made of D. melanogaster larvae at various intervals after removal from a Tcontaining diet up to 56 hours. The preliminary data show that spermatocytes reduplicate their chromosomes very early and move posteriorly as additional cells are proliferated from the apical spermatogonia. The mutagenic effect of tritiated thymidine was studied genetically. Unquestionably the T produces a mutagenic effect. (T.R.H.)
