With the use of radioactive indicators, the influence of hydrofluoric acid and tributyl phosphate concentrations, temperature, and hydrochloric and sulfuric actds on the distribution of niobium and tantalum fluoride complexes between water phase and tributyl phosphate, when the extraction is carried out in static conditions, was studied. The method developed for the separation of mobium and tantalum can be used for the analysis of binary tantalumniobium alloys. An extraction packing continuous column was used for separating mixtures of tantalum and niobium. It was shown that in the conditions adopted (h/sub e/ of packing is 144 mm) it is possible to obtain niobium of 99.7 to 100% purity. (auth)
