The Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 included new provisions requiring EPA to promulgate regulations to require owners and operators of major stationary sources to enhance monitoring and certify compliance with air pollution control regulations. The Agency is developing a rule, the Compliance Assurance Monitoring (CAM) rule, with stakeholders in response to this statutory requirement. The CAM rule focuses on enhancement of existing monitoring requirements and equipment and on the use of monitoring data in demonstrating the proper operation and maintenance of emission control measures.
