After more than 25 years of operation with its original pneumatic instrumentation, the offshore 7,500 b/d capacity Lamarliquido LPG plant was submitted to a modernization project, in order to innovate the whole plant control systems. This paper describes the phases of the project which includes the installation and integration of the following four control systems: distributed control system; fire prevention detection and control system; refrigeration process turbocompressor control system; and emergency shut down system. Details about the different functions developed by each one of the systems are given, emphasizing the logic of operation, main equipment involved and reasons for applications. After a successful completion of the modernization project, the plant is operating fully remote from a new central control room with a maximum production of 5,500 b/d and an expected one of 6,600 b/d.
