THE OXIDATION AND CORROSION OF ZIRCONIUM AND ITS ALLOYS. (The Effect of Carbide Inclusions on Oxide Film Failure)

Journal Article · · Corrosion

The breakdown of the oxide films formed on carbon Melted zirconium and Zircaloy-2 was studied using optical and electron microscopes. The nature of the breakaway process is illustrated and an explanation is offered for the effect of tin, iron, chromium and nickel alloying additions on corrosion resistance of carbon melted zirconium.
