SOME METAL COMPLEXES OF CITRIC AND TRICARBALLYLIC ACIDS

Journal Article · · J. Inorg. & Nuclear Chem.

The formation constants of several metal complexes of citrate and tricarballylate, and of the "hydrogen complexes," i.e., complexes in which HA/sup 2/- act as ligands, were determined by a titrimetric method. For Mn(II), Cd(II), Zn(II), and Ni(II) complexes of citrate, the value of K/sub MA//K/sub MHA/ varies from 10/sup 1.6/ to 10/sup 1.9/, the ratio increasin g with increasing value of K/ sub MA/. The citrate complexes are more stable than the corresponding tricarballylate complex, as expected. The Co(II) and Mg complexes of citrate have reduction potentials which are too negative for direct polarographic method. In the pH region 1.9 to 2.5 the 1: 1 uranyl-citrate complex has been shown to be a monomer with log K/sub MA/ = 8.5. (auth)
