Perovskite-type compounds in binary rare earth oxide systems

Journal Article · · Journal of the American Ceramic Society (U.S.)
The results pertaining to perovskite-type compounds found in double oxides of the trivalent rare earth ions are presented. A survey of the subsolidus reactions that occur in various binary rare earth oxide systems has definitely established the existence of stable perovskite-type compounds. The results show that perovskite-type compounds are formed in the following four binaries: La2O3Er2O3; La2O3-Tm2O3; La/sub 2/O3-Yb2O3; and La2O3-Lu2O3. Specimens were prepared from equimolar mixtures of the trivalent rare earth oxides and examined at room temperature by x-ray-diffraction methods. (B.O.G.)
