INFRARED ABSORPTION WAVELENGTHS FOR SOLID LiH AND LiD

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4172582

The infrared absorption spectrum of thin films of lithium hydride made from different proportions of the isotopes Li/sup 6/- Li/sup 7/ and H/sup 1/- H/ sup 2/ was studied. The results are reporte d only of natural Li depleted in Li/ sup 6/ (97% Li/sup 7/-3% Li/sup 6/) in combination with natural hydrogen (100% Hi) or deuterium (98% H/sup 2/). For LiH, the position of the adsorption peak was found to be at 17.0 plus or minus 0.2 mu , and for LiD at 22.14 plus or minus 0.2 mu . The ratio of the two wave-lengths is 1.32 plus or minus 0.02.
