BRIQUETTED URANIUM TETRAFLUORIDE-MAGNESIUM BLEND FOR BATCH REDUCTION CHARGES

A production-scale operation using briquetted UF/sub 4/--Mg blend as the charge in the reduction of UF/sub 4/ to massive U metal was demonstrated to be feasible. Use of a briquetted charge (11 1/2-inch-diameter briquettes) gave consistently high yields and increased reduction capacity. Thus, an economic advantage over the loose-charge process was demonstrated. (auth)
