FLOW COASTDOWN TEST. SECTION I. SECOND PERFORMANCE. CORE I, SEED I. Test Results DL-S-179 (T-612087)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4171300

Studies were made to determine the rate of flow coastdown in the reactor coolant system upon loss of power to the reactor coolant pumps, The rate of now coastdown during the first three seconds after loss of power to the reactor coolant pumps was faster than predicted but was approximately the same as that observed during the first performance test. The flow coastdown characteristics for three pump operation was essentially the same as for four pump operation. Flow continued for approximately 28 seconds after shutdown of the reactor coolant pumpa. The 1D pump has a slower rate of flow coastdown than the 1B pump, but the maximum flow rate. of the 1D pump was less. (W.J.H.)
