ELECTRODEPOSITION OF ALUMINUM ON MAGNESIUM. Period covered: June 1, 1958 through March 31, 1959

Detailed tests made to electrodeposit aluminum directly onto magnesium, using a modification of the nonaqueous both developed by the National Bureau of Standards, are described. It is shown that good adhesion is not obtained sad a reaction occurs between the electroplating solution and magnesium. However, it is indicated that by using a zinc immersion intermediate coating, satisfactory adhesion is obtained. The purity of aluminum deposited in this manner is greater than 99.8%, with low porosity. Good adhesion is also obtained on copper and steel. These coatings can be satisfactorily anodized. (auth)
