PHOTODISINTEGRATION OF Li$sup 6$

Journal Article · · Physical Review (U.S.) Superseded in part by Phys. Rev. A, Phys. Rev. B: Solid State, Phys. Rev. C, and Phys. Rev. D

The photodisintegration of Li/sup 6/ by bremsstrahlung radia tion of 17.3-Mev peak energy was investigated by use of coincidence techniques to detect neutron-proton coincidences and by measurement of the photo-proton energy spectra. The Li/sup 6/( gamma ,n)Li/sup 5/ reaction is found to be responsible for 0.58 plus or minus 0.13 of the photo-neutron yield measured by Bomanowski while the Li/sup 6/( gamma ,p)He/sup 5/ reaction contributes 0.31 plus or minus 0.04 of the yield. No angularly correlated neutronproton coincidences were detected which would support a deuteron-alpha-particle model for the Li/sup 6/( gamma ,np)He/sup 4/ reaction; however, the possible existence of this reaction is not eliminated.
