A STUDY OF THE EFFECTS OF TOTAL AND PARTIAL BODY RADIATION ON IRON METABOLISM AND HEMATOPOIESIS. Period covered: December 1, 1958-August 31, 1959

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4166817
Progress is reported in studies on the response of the hematopoietic system to fractionated doses of whole-body radiation. Factors which influence tolerance to whole-body radiation exposure are discussed. Radiation effects on the absorptive function of intestinal mucosa were studied by measuring absorption of radioiodine labeled serum albumin before and after limited field or whole-body radiation. The clinical and hematopoietic response following whole-body radiation with shielding of critical areas was studied in a pilot experiment using laboratory animals. (C.H.)
