Automatic generation of adaptive unstructured grids for visous flow applications
- UMIST, Manchester (United Kingdom)
A method to automatically-generate unstructured computational grids for application to complex two-dimensional turbulent aerodynamic flows is described. Techniques have been developed to produce high-quality grids suitable for both turbulent shear-flows and inviscid regions. The procedure is based on a combination of grid enrichment techniques whereby new grid-points and point connectivities are created simultaneously. An efficient data structure is used, so that no search operations through the list of edges are required. The method is used for generating and adapting the grid around single and multi-element aerofoils. The results presented demonstrate the efficiency and quality of the grids generated by this approach.
