Dynamics of the thermal plasma in the magnetosphere

The connection between magnetospheric convection and thermal plasma dynamics is discussed. A model is presented in which the magnetic field is assumed to be dipolar and the field lines beyond 10 earth radii are assumed to be open to the magnetopause. (BJG)
