REACTIVITY OF A ZIRCALOY II THIMBLE IN THE SRE

The gain in reactivity of replacing eight stainless steel control thimbles with thimbles of Zircaloy-2 in the Sodium Reactor Experiment was (1.84 plus or minus 0.07)% at 338 deg F This is equivalent to 5.1 plus or minus 0.2 peripheral fuel elements, which is in agreement with the calculated value of 5 plus or minus 1.
